Government of Uganda — UN Specialized Agency Supported Case Study
National early warning infrastructure powered by AI, IoT sensor networks, and satellite intelligence — developed with a UN food security agency
Uganda faces increasing climate variability, with droughts threatening food security, water resources, and rural livelihoods. To strengthen resilience and preparedness, the Government of Uganda in collaboration with a leading UN food security agency partnered with Rosewill Bome Technologies to design and deploy a national drought monitoring and early warning system.
Prior to this system, drought risk monitoring was fragmented and reactive, often relying on delayed manual reports. This limited the ability of decision-makers to anticipate crises, allocate resources, and protect vulnerable communities. A robust, real-time, and scalable solution was urgently needed.
Rosewill Bome Technologies developed a comprehensive drought monitoring platform that integrates:
High-resolution imagery for vegetation, soil moisture, and rainfall anomaly detection.
Ground sensors measuring soil health, rainfall, and water availability in real-time.
AI models forecasting drought risks and projecting their potential impact across regions.
Government-ready dashboard for early warnings, resource planning, and policy action.
The Uganda Drought Monitoring System has already benefitted over 300,000 people across agriculture, water management, and disaster preparedness sectors. By delivering timely and actionable insights, it helps safeguard crops, livestock, and livelihoods.
With UN agency support, Uganda has become the first country in Africa to deploy this system at a national scale. Building on this success, Rosewill Bome Technologies is working to replicate and adapt the solution across the region, creating a model for climate resilience in East Africa and beyond.
